About

About the HBHL
Officially Founded October 1, 1997...

Founded by Trevor Feduniak, Ben Greenwood and Maurice Bujold in the Fall of 1997, the HBHL exists to set the standard for fantasy hockey league gaming. If you are interested in joining the league proceed to the Directors link to e-mail one of the HBHL Directors.

The Hanson Brothers Hockey League is a fantasy hockey league, modeled after many other such leagues found on the internet. We would like to thank such leagues for any ideas that we may have borrowed. Thanks! The HBHL itself is modeled such that it parralels the real NHL in the sense of teams and players - HBHL players are not neccesarily on their respective NHL teams, though, as team owners may trade players in an effort to better their lineups in an effort to win the holy grail of hockey, the Stanley Cup. To what extent the HBHL parralels the NHL is limited by the personnel available to run the league.

The League Name & Logo

The Hanson Brother's Hockey League is named after the three brothers from the best hockey movie ever...Slapshot. In the movie, the brothers played for the Charlestown Chiefs, an actual minor league team at the time. As of June 2005, the Chiefs still exist, but they are now in Johnstown. When the league changed to the current logo, it was based by the logo of the Johnstown Chiefs; it is essentially an arrowhead.

Membership

The 2004/05 season was a banner year for the HBHL as 29 of 30 GMs who started the season wound up finishing it still within the league. Much of this is to the credit of 2004/05 HBHL Directors Brad Lucas, Jamie Dorgan, Jackie Lindal, Ross Litchfield, Shawn Pedersen and, last but not least, League Manager Trevor Scoffield. Trevor Feduniak, one of the league's founders, is another notable in promoting the league.

The Website

For years, the HBHL was hosted by Geocities at the easy-to-remember URL "www.geocities.com/Colosseum/3792/"; in truth, the site spanned multiple sites serving various needs from storing archived data from previous seasons to servicing communication between GMs (free forums and Yahoo groups).

On Friday March 11, 2005, HBHL.info was launched in order to bring all the information together in an advertisement free setting which would also allow for possible future enhancements of the league via a new web portal. A late 2004/05 season addition was HBHLSelect which allowed GMs to wager credits in the form of 'Mullets' on upcoming games, with varied success. The 2004/05 HBHL website is developed and maintained by Maurice Bujold, one of the league's founders, who rejoined the league in 2004/05 after leaving in it's first year.
